About Tony

State Representative Tony Hwang is proof of the tremendous opportunities available to people in the United States. His commitment to public service saw him elected to the office of State Representative for the 134th district, comprised of sections of Fairfield and Trumbull, in November 2008.
He serves as a member of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee, Transportation Committee and Education Committee.
Rep. Hwang was born in Taiwan and came to the United States at age 9, when his parents fled the communist government and immigrated to Watertown, NY. His family’s first residence in this country was in a federally subsidized housing project.
Rep. Hwang’s first job was working in his family’s restaurant in Syracuse, NY. It was in this role that he developed his entrepreneurial drive. He graduated from Corcoran High School in Syracuse and graduated Cornell University with a B.S. Degree in Labor relations and organizational behavior.
Upon graduating college, he joined United Technologies’ corporate training program in Hartford, CT. However, he quickly learned he is better suited to entrepreneurial endeavors than corporate work and that great things can happen for people willing to commit themselves and work hard in this regard. He was employed for several years in the executive search industry before becoming a realtor.
Throughout the nearly two decades Rep. Hwang has lived in the 134th district, he has been dedicated to community service. He is a firm believer that the United States has given him outstanding opportunities and that he is obliged to give back his community. He is a longtime member of the Fairfield Rotary Club and also serves as an assistant tennis coach at Greens Farms Academy in Westport.
Rep. Hwang and his wife Grace, a Long Island native, are the parents of daughter Christina, age 14 and son Peter, age 9.
