Rep. Hwang Highlights Photography Business Headed by Teenage Madwed Brothers
Sixteen-year-old twin brothers Jacob and Daniel Madwed of Fairfield have taken on the mantle of their late father and gone into the photography and graphic design business. The brothers recently launched the company Capitol Photo & Sons.
The teen bothers worked with their mother, Regina Madwed, until turning sixteen when they could legally own their own business, gaining valuable work experience in the meantime. Regina Madwed says the formation of this full-service and interactive design and photography studio business is a great way for the two brothers to learn business operation, marketing, staff management. The company prides itself on customer service and individual attention. Using digital photography the brothers are able to allow customers to immediately review portraits or other work, including industrial photography, portrait photography, digital media creation, Web design, print and multimedia development.
“It was really a surprise to us,” said Daniel. “One of our mom’s clients asked if we could work at her daughter’s bat-mitzvah because my mom had printers and cameras. But, my mom thought and said that we wouldn’t want to do it. Later that day in a car ride home from school she asked us if we wanted to start this business and from then on Capitol Photo and Sons had begun.”
“The business really started out as a way to get a car,” said Jacob. ”After that we thought that we would stop it. But, all of a sudden the business exploded into this huge thing. It became a serious job that we were committed to for much longer then just a year or two. One time my mom told me that we had just booked a job in 2011 and I told her that’s when we will be in college. It is great to see our business constantly growing and now we have to start training more employees. ”
The boys enjoy the challenges associated with attending Westchester Hebrew High School in Mamaroneck, N.Y., commuting everyday from Fairfield during the day and operating their business after homework and chores making their typical weekday during the school year run from 6:00 a.m. until whenever all their tasks are done.
“This is the kind on entrepreneurism and personal initiative that truly makes America great,” said State Representative Tony Hwang. “The economic climate right now is clearly difficult, and yet these two young men have found a way to invest their skills and effort into producing a profitable business. It’s truly a life-lesson that in success for people of any age that can be taken from these two teens.
“I think it’s also important to highlight successful businesses in the region and showcase their abilities to remain profitable during the current economy,” added Hwang. “I highly recommend that area residents check out the excellent business these young men have created.
I am impressed by the bright example of youthful initiative and business leadership. I hope other young people with pursue their passion and interests. I also hope that many may take away some inspiration from them when considering opening their own business.”
“The business really teaches me a sense of responsibility,” added Daniel. “It’s not everyday that a 16 yr old has his own business. The work is tiring but sometimes you have to give things up in order to gain and experience the benefits. Whether it’s my time or weekends at the end of it all seeing my and my brothers business grow is the best and most beneficial learning experience.”
